ANZAC DAWN SERVICE 2010

ANZAC Day, 25th April of each year, is commemorated to remember members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who in the Battle of Gallipoli, in Turkey during World War I. The dawn service on ANZAC Day has become a solemn Australian and New Zealand tradition. It is taken for granted as part of the ANZAC ethos and few wonder how it all started. The reason of the commemoration is simple … LEST WE FORGET

The highlights of this exclusive 2 days 1 night “ANZAC Dawn Service” package includes;

  • Hellfire Pass Memorial Museum:  sponsored by the Australian government, is located on the site of the cutting and has superb interactive displays telling the story of the construction. Visitors can walk down the valley to see the actual cutting of Hellfire Pass. Although the tracks have disappeared, the route of the cutting can be clearly seen.
  • Hellfire Pass: also known by the Japanese army as “Konyu Cutting” forms part of the Death Railway built by POWs during the Second World War. Allied POW's were forced to cut through solid rock by hands days and nights with little or no food and rest. The word hellfire pass is expressed through the non-stop work site at night when it was lit by fires, carbide lamps and oil fired bamboo lights making the pass looks like hell
  • Dawn Service: the first service on April 25th to remember the landing day of ANZACs in Gallipoli War during WWI. Dawn Service here is prepared in the historical Hellfire Pass.
  • Full services and activities incl. Mountain bike, Royal Thai massage, Bamboo rafting, Canoeing, Lawa cave visit, Mon village visit and many more

03.15 Complimentary transfer from River Kwai RESOTEL by long-tailed boat to RESOTEL pier

03.30 Transfer from RESOTEL pier to Hellfire Pass Memorial Museum

04.00 Arrive at Hellfire Pass Memorial Museum. Walk down into Hellfire Pass or so-called “Konyu Cutting”

05.15 Official Party arrives and parades to the Memorial Site.

05.30 ANZAC Day Commemorative Dawn Service

06.00 Return to the Museum.

06.30 Official Re-Opening Museum.  Light refreshments available in front of the Museum.

07.45 Return to River Kwai RESOTEL

08.00 American Breakfast.
Enjoy morning tropical breeze and the resort’s activities

11.00 Check-out and travel back safely
